Veepstakes 2012: The Real Ryan
Mitt Romney, Republican candidate for President selected Tea Party heart throb Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate over the weekend. He’s been called a ‘policy wonk’ and a ‘bold budget hawk’ as he’s guided a moribund Republican party reluctantly to the alter of fiscal responsibility publicly confronting both Barack Obama’s profligate spending and the refusal of GOP leadership to address the growing buffet of suffocating entitlements. And like any good prosthetic Ryan offers Romney something without which he would be politically disabled – an ostensibly conservative core. His ‘iron clad’ credentials aren’t without a sense of irony, however, as this young crusader towed the line of largesse for such budget busting items as No Child Left Behind, the colossal Medicare Part D, erecting the Department of Homeland Security, ‘To Big to Fail’ TARP, and even took part in establishing Government Motors (GM). This Washington insider, with little private sector experience, is no friend of civil liberties either as he’s continued to vote for the PATRIOT Act, the NDAA and against the removal of their most egregious amendments. While he’s energized conservative grass roots, Ryanmania may prove to be just that – unreasonable enthusiasm.

Syrian Ambassador Offered 5.8m for Defection
What would it cost for you to betray your country? Evidently the Qataris thought $1 million, a monthly salary of $20 thousand spread over 20 years and a cushy Doha residence would be enough to convince Syrian ambassador Hamad Seed Albni. Fortunately for President Bashar al-Assad who has suffered from a string of defections – some legitimate, some staged – He refused the bribe calling the offer a “blatant interference” in Syria’s affairs. According to Iran’s Fars News Agency Qatar has erected a $300 million dollar defection fund expressly for this type of questionable foreign policy.

‘Old People’ Accomplices to Collapse
In the European fiscal crisis it’s not merely rich versus poor and you can’t just blame the banksters or their lackeys – the politicians – for a system teetering on the brink. Older generations have set up the current Ponzi scheme decades before Europe’s youth faced above 50 percent unemployment rates, mountains of debt and bailouts financed through bonds only they are on the hook for in the future. Pensioners and older, legally protected workers, are a prized constituency and evidently care little about their young slaves, let alone the next generation. Sometimes the conspiracy is of our own making.

Sinaloa Cartel: ‘Fast & Furious Meant to Supply Us’
According to federal court documents the ‘logistics coordinator’ for the Sinaloa Cartel, currently in US custody, claims that Operation Fast and Furious was part of an agreement to finance and arm the Sinaloa Cartel in exchange for information. It is allegedly part of the US Government’s ‘divide and conquer’ strategy where “at its highest levels entered into agreements with cartel leaders to act as informants against rival cartels and received benefits in return, including, but not limited to, access to thousands of weapons which helped them continue their business.” Documents being sought by defense lawyers are currently ‘classified’ and or subject to executive privilege citing national security.

Corps Sneak Synthetic Preservatives into Organics
The Cornucopia Institute, a not-for-profit watchdog, has filed a formal complaint with the USDA claiming that several producers of certified organic baby formula have been quietly adding dozens of synthetic preservatives without notice or approval and are therefore in violation of the Organic Foods Production Act of 1990. The formulas in question resulted in ‘severe gastrointestinal’ reactions in infants who previously tolerated the organic product. The organic certifier Quality Assurance International is at the center of the controversy – Cornucopia hopes to press the USDA to aggressively enforce its rules.

Pentagon’s New Militarized Earthworm
DARPA gave us the Internet, Siri, and drones, but its latest creation crawls on the ground and into battle. The Meshworm travels at a stealthy 5 millimeters per second and is virtually indestructible. DARPA along with its international partners developed a ‘mechanical muscle’ made of polymer mesh, titanium and nickel. When electricity is applied heat contracts the mesh allowing this War Worm to move with eerie precision. This slithering spy’s artificial muscles may also open to door to a myriad of possible civilian applications.
