Mach1.24 Skydive: Red Bull Gives You ‘B*%$s’
Associated Press & Red Bull
65 years ago yesterday Chuck Yager, piloting the X-1, became the first to break the sound barrier. 15 year ago today the land sound barrier was broken. Yesterday Felix Braumgartner broke the sound barrier piloting himself. From 24-miles up jumping out of a perfectly good 55-story helium balloon Braumgartner wasn’t thinking about fame or science rather just hoping he would survive. Flying at 833.9 miles per hour he was for an instant more popular than the NFL on Sunday as 8 million tuned in to the live stream and over half of Twitter’s trending tags mentioned his leap.

Specter, ‘Centrist’ or Opportunist
Yesterday former Senator Arlen Specter died. Sad to hear, but it’s important to objectively review his contribution in light of gushing eulogies. Specter was a career politician and according to Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell he was a “master” at it and even “wanted to die in the Senate.” After nearly a half-century in public service he failed to pass any landmark legislation, supported a dizzying array of incongruent positions switching parties not once, but twice. Joe Biden described its as “political courage” it could just as easily be described as ‘political survival.’ His most dubious contribution, conjuring up the ‘magic bullet theory’ for the Warren Commission after the assassination of JFK, a critical piece of evidence which undermined the overwhelming evidence of conspiracy. Not exactly a “Passion for Truth.”

Approved: Race Based Goals
Palm Beach County School Board vice-chairwoman Debra Robinson is “somewhere between complete and utter disgust… and disappointment with humanity…” On Tuesday, the board passed a plan that by 2018 it wants different race groups meeting or exceeding grade level expectations. Asians were at the top, followed by Whites and Hispanics and blacks at the bottom. Local education officials were astonished by the “dumbed down expectations” arguing that the ability to learn isn’t based on race – the state evidently has a different view.

Bernanke’s Printing Press: ‘Good for Global Economy’
Standing up to his critics worldwide the Chairman of the Federal Reserve stated his printing press “not only helps strengthen the US economic recovery, but by boosting US spending and growth it has the effect of helping support the global economy as well.” Emergent economies and their finance ministers don’t agree, labeling the persistent pumping as selfish and ignoring capital inflows from “advanced economies” tend to upend developing economies. At home Ben and friends are still patting themselves on the back for a lower than anticipated core producer price index, which excludes food and energy, but for those few that still eat and drive it’s a different story.

UN: 3000 Peacekeepers for Syria
Lakhdar Brahimi the new head of the UN’s Syrian Peace Envoy is quietly assembling the pieces needed to build a 3000 strong peacekeeping force should a ceasefire be realized in Syria. It’s delicate chemistry. So far the U.S. and Britain are out for obvious reasons – they’re already in Syria. African countries are illequipped and nearby Middle East states are biased in both directions. This leaves Europe and Asia, Brahimi is leaning toward the former. The only thing standing in his way to an authorizing mandate is Russia and China.

Global Warming Stopped 16-Years Ago
According to data quietly released by Great Britain’s Meteorological Office and the Climatic Research Unit. The figures reveal that from the beginning of 1997 to August 2012 there was no discernible rise in aggregate global temperatures This means that the ‘pause’ in global warming has now lasted for about the same time as the previous period when temperatures rose, 1980 to 1996 giving way to the green movement and mass hysteria over a melting planet. Since the industrial revolution in 1880 global temperatures have risen 2/3 Celsius, data such as long term oceanic temperature cycles and the suns output have been omitted from the global warming debate according to critics.
