AMTV News: Julian Assange, Media Martyr or Useful Sideshow?

Welcome to AMTV News, I’m your host Topher Morrison.  Today is Monday August 20th, 2012.  Our final production video can be viewed at the end of this post.

Assange: “War on Whistleblowers Must End!”

Reuters & RT

Sunlight is undoubtedly the most effective disinfectant, but how much has Assange really revealed about the world’s most powerful?  In truth, his revelations of diplomatic backbiting, friendly fire, civilian casualties and refusal to address torture has merely provided more corroborating evidence on what many have already known.

Lets be clear.  His information has not lead to the death of any soldier or American citizen and similarly it has not lead to the arrest or cessation of belligerent rhetoric, let alone action, on the part of our leaders.  He thus fails both in being a “traitor,” something the Australian was repeatedly charged with by bumbling US officials, and as a ‘whistleblowing’ info warrior.

In the final analysis he is being used as a pawn by more than just his ego.  Assange is in effect a partial hangout operation.  His releases of specific classified information about the deceit and brutality of our foreign policy is, but one aspect.  The public shock and reaction of authorities to mass data dumps, however, frames the information as if ‘this is as deep as the rabbit hole goes’, when in reality the depravity reaches much further.  He serves as the cutting edge of Russian propaganda via the wholly Moscow subsidized Russia Today (RT) program on which he briefly hosted The World Tomorrow and now as a vessel into which millions, hoping for true transparency from the elected, are pouring their dreams. The idea that Ecuador’s Rafael Correa, who has fought pitched battles and threatened censorship of his country’s own journalists, now harbors a thorn in Washington’s side, merely highlights the fact Assange is often, but a piece on the proverbial chessboard.

What is most revealing about the WikiLeaks saga is not the man who wears media martyr like a hipster wears skinny jeans, but that our leadership and the establishment media would have us convinced that the real criminals are those who expose acts of high-level corruption and avarice rather than those who perpetrate them.

Most Profitable US Companies Paid 9% in Taxes

All Gov

The United States is 2nd highest among OECD countries in Corporate Income taxes and we’re paying for it in more than just deficits.  For all the talk of keeping jobs from going overseas our colossal Corporate Income Tax screams otherwise.  The conventional argument would be ‘close the loopholes,’ but of course high priced lobbyists will see to that and flat taxes for all the sense they make aren’t on Romney or Obama’s agenda.  Until our leaders understand we are currently losing the Global Tax Revolution and along with it fertile soil to plant major job producing businesses, we will continue to hear that now decades long sucking sound.

Hack the Brain

Madison Ruppert

The last bulwark of freedom and privacy – the human mind – is soon to be penetrated.  Researchers at top universities have created a devious program to operate with a brain-computer interface (BCI).  With the explosion in use of commercial hands free BCIs the opportunity to hack the brain grows as well.  Researchers found that there is a 10 – 40 percent chance of obtaining useful information with current brute force techniques which involve flashing pictures of maps, banks, PINs, etc. to elicit a response.  What the future holds for such malware and brain hackers is evidently up to us and whatever mental sentinels we can devise.

3D Printed Meat: It’s What’s For Dinner

CNet

So, 3D printers can print fully functional semi-automatic weapons even entire homes, but apparently these modern day replicators can now make food!  Peter Thiel is putting up $350 thousand for a company named Modern Meadow which uses 3D bioprinting to create an edible prototype meat replacement.  It’s being sold as a green alternative to a intensely resource driven industry of beef production what co-founder Andras Forgacs calls an “environmental train wreck.”  Well just have to see about this…

Your Next House: A Tiny Home

The Craftsman Blog

Ask yourself, what do you really need?  There is a difference between sinking millions in public funds for 21st century housing projects, which failed abysmally at providing safe and reliable housing.  The tiny home movement is the embodiment of Americans adapting to the new normal.  Rather than opting for McMansions and untenable debt Americans are asking themselves what do I really need.
